David asks…

How do I apply for child care assistance if I am a low-income parent?

I have two children under the age of 18 months and I need to go back to work since I have been out of work to take care of my babies. Daycare costs a lot of money for babies and someone had told me once to apply for child care assistance and that it would help me dramatically. How would I go about applying? Where would I go? Do I have to pay up-front costs? How does this work? If anybody has any answers it would be greatly appreciated on my part. THANK YOU in advance.

admin answers:

Go to your local Health & Human Resources Department.
They have programs that can help you with the cost of child care – in WV the program is called Title 20.

Richard asks…

How does Illinois child care assistance work?

My friends want me to start watching their 3 children. They are on public aid and want to use the child care assistance program to pay me.. What can I expect from this? Also, will someone come to inspect my house? Any info would be appreciated :)

admin answers:

As long as you pay your income tax on this and have a license you should be OK.

Michael asks…

does anyone know how much Child care assistance will pay a relative?

We are applying for child care assistance in Will County (IL) and want to know how much they will pay my provider (my mother) to watch my two children full time. Anyone know where I can find the rate schedule?

admin answers:

I don’t know much about child care assistance, but I was told to apply and see what you get. You could call the state and see if they could give you an estimate, but they might just tell you to apply and they’ll let you know what they’ll pay.

Start early! When I applied I had to send in everything and I got rejected because they thought I didn’t work enough hours. So I had to send in new paystubs to show I did, the prev. 2 weeks were and exception. Then when I reapplied after maternity leave I had to fill out another form varifying my daughter’s disability. So…give youself plenty of time to jump through all their hoops. Good luck.

James asks…

What should I do as a single parent if I do not qualify for child care assistance?

I don’t qualify for child care assistance and the daycare I take my daughter to was unable to get me a scholarship for her. Are there any other organizations in Arizona that could assist me with paying childcare?

admin answers:

Ooo. Tough nuggets, daycare aid is awesome while you qualify. Unfortunately I know of no other program available as far as daycare assistance goes. And If you don’t qualify for that, you more than likely won’t qualify for any other government assistance (food stamps, insurance etc) as they use the same guidelines for qualification. Are you sure you filled out all the forms correctly? If not, go apply for medicaid for your child, if you qualify for that, you will qualify for daycare aid by default- meaning the daycare aid folks will accept proof your child receives medicaid as qualification for the daycare aid program. Otherwise…there’s not much else. If you are going to school, there are scholarships you can get for yourself, and then use that money to pay for daycare- this is something I did while attending a university. Otherwise, you could put her in daycare part-time and try to scrounge up some family/friends to take her on the two days a week she’s not in daycare. Do you receive child support? You may want to pursue that…

Mandy asks…

Can you get child care assistance while on disability?

This question is not for me.

A friend is on disability (receives Social Security) and was asking if Child Care Assistance is available for those who are not working, but need children cared for while getting medical treatments. She currently receives no other assistance. All I know about Child Care Assistance I learned on Judge Judy, so haven’t a clue.

admin answers:

As you know it depends on what state she lives in. In my state you have to be working or looking for work or in a school program. But some states you havea catergory that may work if 1 member of the household is employed and another is disable (I think Lousiana has an option of that). But its always important that she contact her local health and human service office because they may know of other local places that can help her.

Good luck to her!
