Your questions about parenting classes

Maria asks…
Parenting classes?
I just had a thought, why don’t we make every parent take a a few classes on how to be a good and loving parent, and teach you some tricks to make life easier on you.
Only problem is rounding up people who get pregnant, it’d be kinda hard to track em down for parenting classes.
I know this wouldn’t work out in real life, but its a neat thought, wouldn’t you say?
Hehe, yea Sarah, but that is what i said, this wouldn’t work out in real life.
Just a fun thought.

They do this in my school district. The guidance office schedules all the pregnant students and any known fathers in a “life skills” class, where they learn about baby care, nutrition and discipline. I think they cover some basic money management and independent living stuff too.
Personally, I think it would be better if ALL the kids had to take the class in order to graduate. Maybe they won’t use the info right away, but at least they would be exposed to the information.
After all what is more relevant to real life – this class or “Ceramics 2?”

parenting classes?
hi just wondering if any one has tried parenting classes, and if so did they help u learn more about kids thank you

admin answers:
Yes I did and it opened my eyes to how children think, how to keep them safe, etc. It was a great class and I recommend it to any paretn. When we become adults we tend to forget about how we behaved as children and why. These classes help us to remember that children are still young and learning

William asks…
Why are people required to take parenting classes before they become a foster parent, but not a blood parent?
Why is it that the law requires people to take parenting classes before they become a foster parent, but..
When a couple is expecting a biological child, the law doesn’t require them to take any classes.
That sounds one-sided to me; shouldn’t all soon-to-be-parents be held to the same standards?
Why are temporary parents required to do stuff that permanent parents dont have to do?
I would think that permanent parents should have higher standards.
Why do the temporary parents have higher standards?

admin answers:
There is a fundamental right to have children (assuming you are biologically able to do so), just as there is a fundamental right to marry. There is no fundamental right to adopt, so reasonable standards and procedures may be implemented by the state.

Sandra asks…
Where can I find parenting classes for free in Southern California?
I would like to find a parenting class or child development classes for new parents. It is not court ordered or anything like that I would just like to find classes that help new parents understand the best strategies and helpful tips for to be better prepared for raising children of all ages. I have already taken college courses on child and human development that I thought were beneficial but I would like something a little more compact that my fiance and I could go to together. Any ideas?

admin answers:
Go into a few different OBGYN offices and ask them. They usually have a list of local classes for expectant mothers.
